Conventional oil is the classic motor oil, and it’s usually the most inexpensive type of oil. Synthetic oil has chemical additives designed to make the oil last longer and can be the most expensive option. Semi-synthetic oil is a welcome mix of the two, giving you some of the chemical additives of synthetic and some of the economy of conventional oil. An oil change with semi-synthetic oil can last for more miles, so you save a little more that way, too.
An oil change with any oil follows the same basic pattern; the only difference is that semi-synthetic oil is used instead of another type of oil. First, the oil plug is accessed under the car, and the old oil is drained. Then, the oil filter is replaced, and the plug is closed again. Once the system is sealed, new semi-synthetic oil is poured into the oil pan so that it can resume the work of keeping your car in good shape.
When your oil filter is changed, you have the option of using a third-party filter or a genuine Volkswagen filter, or OEM filter. These filters are identical to the filters put in your car when it was assembled, as well as tested to make sure everything worked properly. OEM filters are the best you can get because you can rely on their performance for many miles to come without the uncertainty of an unfamiliar part.
